KlondikeIke, I was digging around an old zinc mine in Gunninson Colorado and came across some purple ore which I think was Peacock Ore It had bands of purple blue and gold arranged like a rainbow. It had been laying on top of a mine spoil pile since the 1920s and the inside was still purple. I took it home and placed it in a box in the attic. About a year later I took it out and it had turned black. Does that sound like the silver ore you saw?

I've seen silver ore in bands.... usually it will stay purple... I've seen bands of silver ore in rocks and cobbles in dry washes in the desert, where the daytime heat is very hot.. and it also gets cold in the winter..and the silver usually stay purple...

One thing I've learned about prospecting..just when you believe you have figured out what it is you have found based completely on experience, it usually about that time you learn something new and everything changes concerning what you believe you have found...

The real proof is in the assay...

Crush it to a fine powder and heat it and see if silver bubbles up...(make sure you are outside and up wind..or in a very well ventilated area...)

Most likely it's not silver... but who knows...

Hope that helps...

Good luck,

Klondike  Ike

Good point KlondikeIke, Unfortunately I had to leave it behind when we moved from Texas. I didn't have room for all the rocks and stuff I had collected. gambol
