Hello chipthefinder

Thank you for the interesting post.

They look like items from around the mid 1850's to early 1900's at guess. Do know the date of the homestead.

Some of them may be able to be restored for conservation pieces.

Nice find.

Thank you for the reply and the good info. I do know the homestead was there in the 1850's but I do not know earlier than that. What is making this find hard is that the trees have been harvedsted and they have moved some dirt around. Not alot, but some. I am having to hunt about a three acre area to try to locate the old foundation.
do you have any idea of the worth of these objects
Thanks again...and where r u located

Those objects will be worth more to you, the finder, than any purchaser.   If you are determined to sell, you might check with farm museums and with folks who restore old farm machinery.

Hello chipthefinder

If you know the location really well it may pay to look from above with Google earth which might show the impression foundation outline in the field. that is what archeologists do these days.

In regards to Value. What price would you put on the joy you had when you found them?

If I had found them I would look at restoring the items that could be restored. The axe and pick cleaned up, rust treated and perhaps a new wood handles on them. Wood make an interesting conversation piece in a games room. Crossed over each other like medieval swords on a wall.

However I dare say there are are always tool collectors out there. But it won't be worth much.

It depends weather you want to part with your goodies or not.

I also have been hunting an 1800's homestead for the past year and have found similar axx heads, hatchet, hammer head and an old hoe, those pioneer tools are really heavy arent they! I dont know if your hunting in the woods or an open area, the tools I've found were within 40 feet from the old fallin in shack and abot the same distance from the old fallin in stable or whatever it was there. If your in the woods, some things to look for that could help, seperate smaller trees from bigger ones because they could have been cleared over years for a path. Look for flowers, they were planted, also look on trees, you can sometimes find old bobbed wire going through it which established some kind of perimiter! " These are just some of the things I've noticed in my area that may or may not help! "Nice find!" Ive seen the majority of those cleaned up with a price of 20-$30.00.

Hey, Chip.....cool axehead.

I don't know how far you are from the county seat, but if you have the legal description of the property, you might want to search it in the county records---it's possible you might find some older surveyor's plats that could help.

Hey Hardluck and thanks for the info..I agree...I am fixing to build a room on to house the stuff I have found and will find...these items will be a piece of it I am sure.
Hope to talk again soon..btw I have been on google earth but how do u get an impression like u r talking about
Thanks
Chip
Hey Earth Whisper and thank you for the hints...they are good ones.  I was there today and saw some flowers and starting looking around there. this place has been harvested of trees and some earth work has been accomplished. they are about to replant and start growing again..i have to be in and out before they start as not to hurt any new plants...once they plant i will not be allowed to get back in there for a few years
take care and hope to talk soon and i am using a prizm II, which is not the best MD, but i think it is adequate for this
Hey Bitburg and thank you for the direction. I will go in and see if I can find that
Thanks
Chip

Your welcome and good luck, hope to see some great finds from the area! You use the prism 2, I have the prism IV! I dont know how long you have been detecting with your prism, but one thing I have learned with mine, move fast, slow and every direction with it in just blocking the iron mode with sensitivity all the way up, the weather condition changes the soil a lot also," where you are hitting those iron targets, keep hitting them over and over because someone was working there which means some tore buttons, dropped coins, etc. The prism is funny and I hit targets in the same area that I hit nothing constantly and one day its bamb.....bamb... what the! "Its out their, Good Luck! Great
