Go Up Go Down

Met up with some friends for a hunt in the woods on Saturday. The area we intended on hunting was closed off due to flooding, so we made the best of it and decided to hunt across the road. Everyone came away with something after a long hunt in some tough conditions.

The digging ranged from perfect to rock hard, and there were some targets I was never able to retrieve due to the frozen ground. Good repeatable signals were few and far between, but we spent around 5 + hours searching for a winner anyway.

After around an hour I wandered over to a piece of high ground close to the river that looked like it might have been a perfect place to picnic. Within a few minutes I received the only signal that I felt for sure was a coin.

I dug a plug and flipped it out of the ground and saw the small silver edge and I thought pull tab. Then I looked a little closer and noticed a reeded edge. I broke the plug open and saw the smallest silver coin I ever found.

It turned out to be a 1919 Canadian half dime in good condition. The only other find I made was a clad nickel towards the end of the day.

Was it worth it to me hunting almost 6 hours in 30 degree temps for that little coin? You betcha!

Thanks for looking!
Mike

PS. The half dime is on top of a merc to give you a sense of scale.
