Go Up Go Down

Got out the detector for an hour tonight and dug around in the yard for a few, unfortunately no 1913 nickel but I did come up with a cool old plumbers wrench and a 56 wheatie, and a 86 dime. Lots and lots of nails, plus a side cover off an electrical box.

Waveing I'm afraid If I dig all the targets in my yard the wife will bury me and my detector.  Have found some cool things there tho.

Just last week I found what I think is a Masons chisel.  The previous owner was a contractor so not any thing odd there.

Keep diggin.

Well the wrench is the coolest thing Ive found in my yard so far, other than that 3 pennies two dimes a hundred or so roofing nails, forty or so framing nails, a large capacitor some bits of copper wire, a light bulb base and a 3" long piece of 3/8 copper tubing. I was hoping since I live in an old house I might find some silver coins dropped over the years, but it would seem they didnt spend much time in the yard dropping loot for me to find. Oh well its still fun and the yard was already pretty well dead from the summer heat so the wife isnt too upset over all my digging. I almost forgot I also found the original septic tank that rusted through and was filled in, that was a great signal : ) @ aluminizer I figured I better get my pothole technique down pat before I start asking around to dig in other peoples yards. @ CCSportsDad how are you liking the 505 so far? I am already wishing for a depth indicator and am drooling over the teknetics. Gonna try to build the pinpointer I found on here out of my junk box this weekend but I have to work today so Im not sure Ill get it all done, hope you find something cool  Cool

Your own yard is one of the best places to find good stuff, especially if it is an older house.  I found a lot of good stuff in my yards.  When you get some moisture in the ground be sure to re-check your yards again.  The signal will penetrate deeper and you will pobably find better targets!

The darn ground is so hard Ive been flagging my targets then watering the spots so I can dig them up  Undecided  now you tell me that and Im thinking I may have to water the whole yard. Im sure I will be digging up the yard for many months to come. Ive already been looking at fancier detectors that go deeper / more precise the wrench was the deepest thing so far at 8" all the coins and nails have only been down a couple inches, I dont know if there is anything deeper yet......I cant wait to find out.   Detecting

Yes, water sections of the yard like crazy at night so the moisture will penetrate deeper.  Then go out and detect in the mornings before the ground dries out again!     Victory    Great    Detecting

Heya Caleb, I only just started tinkering around with my 505 now that I got it back from kellyco.  I'm still trying to figure out the targeting so I'm not digging all over the place Smiley  I *think* I have the MD now set up and adjusted to my liking, now to get out in my yard and figure out what all targets are that were setting it off Smiley

Ive gotten better on coins I can usually hit them right on the money (pun intended) Grin the ones that usually give me trouble are the nails, they more often than not ping in between the coils rather than in the center and I have to use the pin pointer to find them on the edge of the hole. More often than not the detector tells me it is iron but the roofing nails show up as coins maybe because of the zinc coating? I'm still digging everything up to see what it shows vs what is actually in the hole. I've heard good things about the 505, I'm saving now towards a Teknetics Delta 4000, that dd coil is calling my name. Detecting
