Go Up Go Down

Went for a  Detecting on the beach today and found $3.15 as well as recovering a necklace for a lady who had lost it a hour or so prior  Clapp . Also had my first encounter with a person who just didn't like me being there.  Sad It was on a local public beach that has loads of kids on it. Normally I don't have any trouble as most people are really interested in what I am finding as well as the fact that I take all the rubbish away that I find and let them know that I do.
Today I was detecting when a lady asked me not to come so close, so I moved away though I couldn't see any problem in detecting as I passed. I got 4 lines down the beach from where she was, (lines is the chain links I drag to show me where I have been) when she and her friend got up and moved directly into the path that I was about to take, 1.5 meters away from where she first complained. When I got to that spot she had a go at me again about invading her personal space and told me did I mind but move away, in a not friendly manner.  Angry I told her that she had moved back into my line after I had steered clear of her, that no one else had a problem with what I was doing and that once a week I clean up all the scrap metal and sharp things on the beach when I detect it which keeps it safer for the kids. Again she hassled me about invading her personal space and ignored the fact that she had moved back directly into my path after I had moved away. I probably should mention that both her and her friend were the only 2 people on the beach that were topless even though it is a known kids beach and that topless bathing is more for the main beach a couple of hundred meters away.
Did I handle the situation ok or would have u guys done it different and have u all had any similar experiences with people who just want to complain. I don't want to get into trouble for my hobby and I can see that someone like her could cause that for me. I wasn't looking at them as I always look straight down at the sand in front of me when ever I am detecting. Z.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I think you handled it fine!  Except for, like GD said, taking pictures and posting them!   Detecting

Should have pulled out your cell phone even if it does not have a camera,   Pointed at them and said, You Want Exposure!  You Got it.

There they are in a Public Place Being Public!

Offer to make it MORE public.

LOL!

They just wanted to be Noticed after all!

When hassled on the ,I produce a cigar case saying the drug addicts were here yesterday and I am looking for needles because of the danger to children and the general public this usually alarms them and they move on

Sometimes you just can't reason with people looking for a fight... I go to the beaches down here (most include topless) and thus far I haven't had that problem (but probably will at some time). I try to avoid topless bathers, I look down at the sand/metal detector when near them and I keep my earphones on (pretending that I am totally involved in hunting and can't hear them). Normally, they don't care. Also, perhaps due to the accepted attitude toward topless bathing here in southern France, it is not such a big issue.Coloma Gold

When I have beach hunted, I usually go before people hit the beach and leave when they start showing up.  Or I search the beach when everyone is headed back from it to get supper and begin their evening activities.  I kind of stay away from the sand when there are many people there.    Detecting
