Go Up Go Down

Hello all. The other day I was in the library looking threw all the local newspapers looking for a carnival location that I got a tip on. It was from the 60's. As I was looking threw the microfiche I came across a article on a flee market that was for a benifit. It had a picture of a buch of vendors on a grass field. And it went on to say how much of a success it was. But I reconized the place. So I slept on it lastnight knowing I would go in the morning. So I get there today and hit it hard. I found a Broken Sterling earing a non broken sterling earing a 925 silver charm Then I found a set of sterling class rings not far from eachother. On my way back across the feild I got a strong hit sounded really shallow. At about 2 inches I dug the US pin. Man I was so happy. I had a great day. Then I went home for awhile. Then I decided to go to my favorite cornfield with my Uncle for awhile. I got the button with shank still there. it says tripple robenson & C.O. Then I found the large cent. 1800 has 1 over 100 on the back. Here is all the finds after cleaning. Had a awsome day...

Moral Of The Story 1. Research Pays 2. Get out there.

Great finds and research.  I am just wondering why a cornfield would be good?

Very nice finds! Congratulations!

Did you find lots of junk amongst the rings?

The thing I have to complain about is that we most of the time find only modern junk. I mean a broken old button or tool is still of interest to me while digging up coke cans can become pretty annoyin after a while Smiley

Cornfiels haven often prove to be excellent hunting grounds to me. They are especially good if there used to be an old trading route going through them. But also lots of other good finds can be made in corn fields.

Good luck for the next time you go hunting there. Each season one can find new thinsg in a corn field.

The reason I chose the cornfield is because the revolutionary war went right threw them. And yes I did dig loads of trash among the rings,

You always find trash when you find the good stuff..the problem with cornfields is that the soil is very hard on relics that have been in it for a long time. I have seen CW belt buckles pulled from cornfields and they are usually cracked and broken.
Also I find many cornfields have very hard soil.
I have hunted many....You should keep hitting that field.

Good luck.

Dean

Ya the good thing about the fields here is the soil is soft. But alas it is hard on the relics and coins. Although I have pulled a few that wherent so bad. Like my 1731 George was in great shape and also my 1858 flying eagle cent wasnt that bad. Loads of musket balls out there. I wish there where some of those buckels here. Shoot I would even take a broken one. The revolutionary war was here though and you can find stuff from that war.

I would love to find some Rev War stuff!!!
There was a War of 1812 Supply dump and camp area not far from me.
I moved to Whitby 10 years ago and never thought there would have been anything War of 1812 nearby.  The field it was in was empty...but I didn't find out until last year...by then the field was under a plaza.
What a great loss.

Well keep up the huntig and good luck..post photos of your finds when you get them!!
