Forgot to mention..the Crown shown is 1911, however the Badges are the 1881 Pattern..and I am sure that Crown is much older than that.

Nice finds Ian!  Got a pic of the reverse of the button?  Sometimes the loop or fastener can help ID buttons.  The metal under the gold colored plating looks to be on the cheap side.  All the military buttons I have found are usually copper or bronze, some have been gold plated.  HH, Mike

Thanks for trying to help with the id guys.
Yes Mike & Dean it is a very cheappo metal underneath the gold paint, haven't got a pic of the back yet, I'll try and put one up tomorrow.
Just showing my ignorance about buttons, never thought about taking a pic of the back. Obviously I've got an awful lot to learn about this hobby.

That's part of the fun of the hobby though is all the new stuff you can learn while enjoying the hobby.

If you ever need ID for any button..please always include something for scale..something we understand over here..LOL

And always a photo of the back.
I have seen many Rev War ( 1770s) buttons listed as French...There are some British buttons that have the very same designs and number types from the same period..the back tells the truth.

I have over 100 dug buttons ( military) that date 1770s to WW2...most have been sent to me by relic hunters in the UK from the UKDN , Searcher Mag from the UK made me a feature artical in last Novs issue because so many UK relic hunters had sent their Military finds to me, and I use them in many Historical Society displays, school displays, Rememberance Day displays and the annual Camp X display.
I have a lot of referance..and on the UKDN I am a Finds advisor.

I alwys ask to see the backs..sometimes it helps..sometimes not..many times it's a gut feeling...and I do pretty well.

Dean
