Go Up Go Down

With the weather in the UK presently looking good, I decided to put the morning in detecting my regular beach.

Sifting between all WWII scrap and shrapnel, I managed to eek out £1 decimal, a rusting 2p decimal, a George V half penny, and a 1939 sixpence. If I can only keep my patience and continue to detect the area; I am sure that there will be better finds to be made.

Hi Homie,
I tried the aluminium foil trick on my first silver find. It was a "Queen Elizabeth I" silver sixpence and I was quit stunned by the exothermic reaction and the stink of bad eggs that it gave off.  Shocked

I also, recently, tried it on the back of a pocket watch that I had found. Almost threw the darned thing away!  Wink

It sure cleaned up the Lizzy hammered and piece of pocket watch but the darned stuff didn't help with today's 1939 sixpence. I guess that today's sixpence was low in silver content and unresponsive to the spit and foil operation. Presently soaking the little kritter in fresh lemon juice and it appears to be doing the job, but slowly!

Ah ha, most interesting! If I guessed that the cleaning plate was made from aluminium; would I have guessed correctly?

Many thanks for posting the clip.

Yes plate is aluminum, we have one in SA and it really does work great.
