I think that the park where I was detecting has been gone through mostly because it almost seems that they left all the pennies. But then I hit a quarter! So, pretty good hunt. Unfortunately, one spot where I'd found two pennies close to the surface I'd disturbed a nasty army of small black ants! Those little buggers were all over me but I still had to get that third target there! Pull tab! Grrrr. Oh well, still not too bad of a haul in less than one hour.
Seven pennies and one quarter. Two of the pennies I could identify were: 1964 and 1977 Denver mint on both. The quarter was a 1998 P.

I know you were disappointed but every little bit contributes to the cash pile. I used to have a 10 gallon glass jar that held muriatic acid at one time. I used it to store my finds. After a year, it held $1900 in metal face value. Silver coins brought the total to just over $2000 so it was our mad money for a vacation back in the 1970s.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

wow! That's a lot. However, I'm not as active a m/d and go out maybe once a week for an hour or two at most. So, the pile won't be nearly that big but still that's a pretty good chunk of change there!
Congrats.
I'm saving up for an AT Pro.

Back in the 70's I had a one gal jar of silver LIBERATED from me by some kids breaking into the house.  Silver finds like those day are NOW OVER, but it's still out there.

Folks still finding it. Just seems you need the next gen coil or detector. I suspect you just need to alternate your hunts. Pennys sometimes hide things. I see private porpertys the best bet for finding old stuff now. But the parks do give up silver and gold in the form of rings. I rarely dig trash anymore. Suspect I have a lot of help.

I'm working on a club-hunt for the local m/d club that I belong to. It's been a couple weeks now of back-n-forth emails with a guy from the city parks department. There's a 'plot' of land that they're planning to designate and build a city park there. I've asked if we can go hit the field there before they break ground. The guy passed the request to the city's legal department to get the OK from that group. Hmmm anyway, my fingers are crossed that all goes well.
