I think it is too big  for a joy buzzer.  I am going to try to disassemble it and clean it.   Thanks for the suggestion.

How big is it? (----something none of bothered to ask-----)   

Besides the guts of a wind up toy, another possibility that comes to mind is the guts of a small wind up kitchen timer.  Or a travel alarm such as

Here are some closer pic.  I going to soak it in some calcium, lime and rust remover - CLR.  Then soak it again in olive oil.  maybe the screws will loosen enough to disassemble the mechanism Club.

That lever on the side (coupled with the 3 knobs on the back) sure says travel alarm to me.
