I hear that you can soak coins like those in tobasco sauce and then wipe them with bartenders helper (whatever that is) and make them like new. That's what I hear anyhow.

Tobasco sause, haven;t heard of that method. I have been useing vegtable oil to clean coins. Soak your coins in oil for 3 days,  then useing a tooth brush to remove debris off of the coin. The oil will soak into the deposits left on the coin, it loosens up debris, that can then be gently brushed off, Then I use a q-tip and dish soap to finish cleaning the coin. This method does not remove any petina color from the coin nor leaves any scratch marks. Some of my early indian heads have a very beautiful green aqua petena color that just ads to the character of the coin that I do not want to remove, although this method really can clean up silver quite well.

The cleaning method with oil sounds good. I think I will try it. I have a couple of coins and some old Boy scout items I found from a jamboree around 1965 in Farragut State park in Idaho.. Thanks

I use mineral oil.  This pass Nov I search a old fair ground; that was a soybean field.  When they plow it they turn up old coins.  Had two seated dime that were were very dark, brought the darkness right out of there.  A coin dearler told me that trick.
