I think this is a penny rolled and restamped. Fine day to get out - leaves falling and I was pelted with little acorns. It says Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco. On the back at the bottom there's 19 - probably part of the date on the coin. Sue

Yeah, I got one of those made at the Alamo in San Antonio one time-you gave the owner of machine 51 cents and he would take the penny and the quarters in slots on machine and turn the handle and out would come the flattened souvenir penny-ha!---I went to fair the other night and gave a cute little monkey a quarter-ha! And no souvenir for me-ha! So, I guess getting a souvenir penny made isn't all that bad---and makes for a decent and somewhat interesting find .Great

Nice find Sue! I think they are very cool to find. I've got a couple as well. Neat little rare-ish treasures dug.  Cool I've even got two or three like the ones Sammygirl finds down along the tracks too. Wink

Later Doll,

lb

Hi Larry! Good to see the guy behind all that old show & tell - fun time. What have you been up to? That thing showed up wider than a coin on my detector, but still read penny.

Thanks, treasuremomo, with an explanation of how those souvenirs were made. I had no idea. Sue

Those are cool - I had no idea they made them anywhere but US. I know. . . Tongue duh  Now I'm curious - what coin do they use? I'm game for a swap - of course that's not getting rid of things  Smiley Sue

they are common find here sue,but most of them where struck on the 2pfennig coin(iorn clad) before germany went ?uro in 2002,I dont dig the Iron clad, but some times they come to light, they where just under the serface, you see the machiens in the tourist places,I know there is one in the olympic park here in munich,I think you inceart ?1,and a clad 5ct coin, and you get one,the ones I found,(now yours If you want) where struck on the old 2pfennig,the german mark system, so they are now yours sue, mike

Hello Sue!  I only hunted four or five times this year, and for short periods at that. I've been spending a lot of time Blogging and Twittering or Tweeting lately. Are you on Twitter yet? It's got lots going for it. Take care Sue.   Cool LarryB

Go Up Go Down

Few years ago I dug up a dime that was a penny on the other side and a dime on the other. I didn't quite know what to think about this find. I found out later that it was a novalty coin. I was sort of thinking thats what it was, (not really, I thought I might really have something)

Mean while I'm still waiting to hit the Lotto  Tongue
