Alien, Cube, Indian Tool, Sorta Hot Rock Thing???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Found this one the other day.

Measures 2 and 1/4 by 2 and 1/4 by 2 and 1/2 inches to the most parts.

Looks like it was a grinding stone. Hand hammer sorta thing.

Two apposing sides are to flate to be a tumbled stone.

Other two sides look like they have been used to Mash things.

A Magnet will stick to it.

Detector sounds like a Nickel on it.

Alein Space Hot Rock? Ha Ha Ha

Kinda a Slate Black color.

Yea it's heavy for the size. Definitely Metallic content.

I don't think it's Hemo tite.

To dark in color.

I just did the Meteor test on it.

Hematite steaks Red......NO

Magnetite steaks Black.....NO

This stuff is hard.

No Steaks on white Ceramic Tile.

It just scratched the white tile.

It scratches window glass.

I spent 2o minutes with silicon Carbide wet and dry sand paper By hand wet and it Just made a window.

Still black in color and looks metallic under the sun.Huh??

No Visible Condroles.

Rust spots under window.

Iron is not hard enough to scratch Glass!

I have no Ideas!

This stuff is hard.

If I Try to scratch it with a Screw diver, it leaves a mark.

I then can wipe the mark away with my thumb.

Could that be space debris from space junk? Heard that there are millions of man-made objects circling our planet before they fall down from the sky. Shocked Whatever it is, sure a good cool find. Grin

Not THAT hard! That is closer to diamond hardness. Space junk, even nickel meteorites, are not that hard

Window cut with Wet/Dry silicon carbide paper.

Looks metallic in photo but is dark grey/black in color.

I took it to a Rock Shop and the guy told me its Basalt.

I dont buy that because of the hardness and fine grain.

Basalt it is NOT, I know basalt.... seen loads of arrow and lance heads, made from basalt. Basalt is NEVER magnetic and no harder than quartz. And Borte is not magnetic, as far as I know.

It is not Alaska Black Diamond (hematite,) either, that leaves a red streak.

The only solution would be spectroscopic analysis. IF a tiny piece could be removed for such analysis.

Ya, Ferris, as in wheel! I am not so sure, not with the cubic shape, which reflects its inherent crystal form, It sure is not corundum, either as that is not magnetic, either. I would suspect a nickel compound.

There are a few tests but not as definitive as spectroscopy.... that would show all the visible lines, of all constituents, including absorption lines, which can be distinctive, in some elements.

A friend of mine once found a 'hot rock,' that was tan on the outside and when broken, was metallic, inside.... he could never identify it. He said, where he found it there were tons more. it was shaped about like a hamburger bun.  Shocked
