Go Up Go Down

Sorry, don't have any pictures, but I spent a couple of hours splashing around in the creek at the old Cavender Creek Gold Mine site today.  I spent most of my time digging to bedrock in the creek.  The weather was beautiful and the water was warm enough in my wetsuit to let me stay out there for a while.  I found about a dozen small nuggets.  Nothing more than a few grams or so though... maybe 1/8 an ounce total.  I spent a little time panning some sand, and found some HEAVY black sand, sand that I couldn't wash out of my pan, so I scooped up five gallons of it, sifted it,  and brought it home to pan tomorrow.

All in all it was a great day.  Even if I hadn't found a thing I'd have been happy. Spring has finally sprung and I can splash in the rivers again.  If anybody wants to come up here and play in this creek, it's got a lot of potential.  I might have only pulled down 1/8 of an ounce today, but that was with nothing but a #4 screen and a pan... so there's a lot in there.

No books... bring a 20 dollar bill down here to the local tourist gold mine (probably could be had for half that on a google search) and just buy a pan and I'll show you how to use it.  It's a perfectly good waste of a Saturday afternoon.  You'll pull down minimum wage on a good day... but at least you get to splash around in the water and have fun.

Yeah, I'm in Dahlonega, Ga... Look it up if you want.  It was the site of the very first gold rush ever in the US.  People were kicking nuggets over the groung here back in the 1820's, and we had a US mint here in town due to the gold that was being dug out of the hills.  Around 1849 everybody fled this area for San Fransciso, and I'm glad, because that leaves more for me.     and there's nothing selfish about that.....finders keepers....losers weepers.  if you ever get the chance to take photos of the area you are panning or any of your finds, you should post them, that would be cool to see.  thank  you for the information
