not fire wood sawn timber for construction 4" x 2" inches, iv'e been in the building trade for over 30 years and still new apprentices are still speaking in imperial measure , i agree about the price hike when they change the weights and measures it's like open day for the proffiteers and it's always the small man who gets hit hardest (or should that be person) Huh?Huh?Huh??

Aw shucks, I did not know you meant toobafors! 2 inch by 4 inch.... we still call them 2 by fours, 2 by 6s, 4 by 4s, 2 by 8s... well you get the idea. I do not have a clue as to what the metric terms are AND we still have 4 by 8 plywood. Studs are still about 92 inches, too, and walls are still 8 feet, what ever the metric measure may be.... it is just not used here.

There was a change in logging, though, it went from board-feet and cubic feet to cubic meters, only. Screwed up every scaler in the industry!

Maybe we should shoot more stumps?  Cool

Maybe you are right. I can just see the news headlines:

ANOTHER STUMP FALLS PREY TO WHAT IS PRESUMED A MOB HIT OR PERHAPS A LAZY LOGGER  Wink

I did not know there was a difference.... it is snoose to me. I just have a hard time keeping up with the spelling differences, like tyre and tire... to me tyre is over there with ninevah.  Grin

How about common sayings, like ninny, naught, a few bricks shy of a load, the almost colloquialisms....

How about Caravan, we say trailer; saloon and we say station wagon; pub, and we say bar or beer parlour or beer joint or waterhole. Lots of fun. My US spell checker does not like the spelling of parlour, it wants parlor.  Cool

Speaking of shooting stumps (which we were not,) when my mom and dad came to this area, as teenagers, about 1928, it was bald open prairie! Now it is covered with miles of poplar trees.... you can shoot as many as you like! The onliest big trees, here, then were spruce 2 to 4 feet through, could not kill one of those with one shot!  Shocked

Never heard that one.... my gramma always said *3 shakes of a dead lambs tail; currying a dead horse; whipping a dead mule,* and more. Then there is *oatmeal parritch, thick enough to stop a bullet.*

I do know, that meeting an old burned stump, in the dark, would make anyone shoot!

Pardon me but I believe the politically correct term is "Inclined William," not Hillbilly. How utterly insensitive of you, mate. Tongue
