Go Up Go Down

We had a nice day on Sunday got some interesting stuff again.
I want to know ....Am I the first detectorist to find a "GEO CACHE??"
Here's the story ....I usually give hollow trees a look over with a swing of the detector not very often do they give a responce however this time I got a signal,
which raises curiosity so I pull out this "cylinder" which is covered in "camouflage" tape, the first thing we all do is give it a shake and it sounded like it contained something and obviously metalick, I opened it and it is full of strange items playing cards small toys pens badges plastic egg feathers and a bunch of other things.
I didn't have a clue what it was so I scooped it up and eventually got back to my truck for lunch and showed it to my DB he recognized it right away and said it was a 'Geo Cache" further examination revealed a "log book" in a plastic bag which had notes from thousands of miles away from people who had actually found this by given co-ordinance and made friendly comments to other future finders, now being a hobbyist I don't like to spoil other peoples fun so I dutifully took it all the way back to its hiding place, and we left our own note in the book.
Has anyone else found one of these???.
I do not want to give too much info re this item as it would most certainly give away our site.
My finds were a nice Indian head penny 1882 a Norwegian coin 1998 some musket balls tools forks "cutlery" one and a half horse shoes a guardian angel a bunch of keys 6 wheat pennies a "mystery" object centre of horse shoe a cuff link what was a good quality pen knife which has a logo of a bare tree on it possibly German, "anyone recognize it"?two 1812 buttons one is US 15th reg Infantry, .........HH.........Johnnn

Used to Geocache myself. Could be fun  Smiley  and sometimes aggravating.  Angry  Haven't found one with a detector yet but there is always a first time. Good for you returning it to it's place for others to find.  Great

Nice finds johnnn, About the geocache, I was doing this some time ago but I stopped when I started detecting. I had an idea to combine the two hobbies. Hide the Cache in the ground where people have to have  a GPS and a detector to recover it. It would add a new twist to  both hobbies. The only problem is getting permission to hide one.. I may just do that anyway and put the coordinates on this web site. Call it a detectocache.

Hi G,
That's a great idea, if you chose to hide the item in a wooded area or open public land you may not need permission, if the "seekers" of the item abide by the same code of ethic's that we do that would leave the area undamaged that would work.
One problem would be the "multiple" retrievals of the item maybe that would make the object too easy to find as the ground would be disturbed  Undecided...Johnnn

Good point Johnnn, One of the rules would be you have to re-hide it in a fresh place.
