he Digaholic's Epiphany before Christmas
A light rain creating a phantasmagoria of effervescent dots slowly making their way down the windshield.  An overhead sky darkened by cloud that seemed almost apologetic in that they blocked the sun.  Behind Nogo's wheel a man of years and toil.   Going out to fulfill a need.  A need that had grown over the years till it had become an obsession!
Opening the trunk he took out a spade and a detector that was of a newer version  that promised more depth, more treasures.  The old digaholic swung this heavy machine not by preference but by necessity as the other Garrett's had passed away or were away being "reconditioned." The schoolyard was vacant for the holiday season.  The old man thought as he thought this it was weird to say happy holidays instead of "Merry Christmas."  Times had changed.  The digaholic longed for the happy times when swinging was easy and a joy even in the most uncomfortable weather.  The area had been done by many and a few times by he.  Pennies.  Once the life blood of the finds were unearthed...now useless but at one time the return from each pop bottle that was collected.  The swinger was saddened for the state of the area.  No one seemed to care anymore about the appearance of the play area.  Doggie dew was the lay of the land.
Zoned in as the troubles of the world were zoned out the digaholic continued;  his mind on cheerful things like his wife, his life and the fact that he could still swing.  An unusual sound was emitted from his machine,.   What is it?  How did it get there?  Who lost it or discarded it?  Questions but no answers.  Comes with the territory of the hobby.....sometimes no answers.  In the end does it matter?  Being there.  Doing the thing that kept the old man motivated was answer enough.  Thoughts drifted to  good friends, adventurous locations and the odd fine.  The swinger's body let him know that the time had come for an end.  At least to this time out.  There will be others. Departing with a cleared mind and soul the digaholic rejoiced that the "Big Guy" was once again the reason for the season and had guided him through yet another wonderful year!  Best of the season to all!he Digaholic's Epiphany before Christmas
