. . . it was cloudy with a chance for meat balls in Chicago. Cloudy Sunday morning in Chitown and went out with wife for a morning hunt to a local playlot. Ground was extremely wet and it was getting my MD, pinpointer, digger, snickers, and cloth all muddy. Hit the tot lot and it was when the playlot began to give heavily. In about 1/1/2 hrs before the thunderstorm, we managed to retrieved $9.17 in clad.  Cheesy One corner alone gave me 16 quarters, one next to the other  Shocked (see pic). Now that was beautiful  Great. Sadly for us, we had to depart leaving behind the other portion of this lot's riches. But, we'll be back  Rider

Nice job cyber, $9.17 would buy enough diesel to pay for round trip to my digging spot
but I don't find enough to pay for 4AA batteries

I don't have any idea how much self control it took to stop and take a picture of those coins in a row.

Well done, mate! Seriously!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks. Seriously man between the high cost of gas and the cost of batteries, we better find more clad than anything else to maintain our hobby.  :- We need more pocket spills and hauls of coins, no kidding!

Thanks, GD. No, seriously, I dropped my camera 2 times before I could take a pic, and it was about to pour as well. Love how it came out though and I'm framing it. I mean, we don't find a haul of 16 quarters that often. Do we?

Oh, yeah! It's not the actual monetary value of the find is it? The things that run through our mind as we see the edges of the coins make us all smile and glow inside. It's in our nature, eh? I try to imagine how on earth they got there without somebody noticing they dropped all those coins at once.

It reminds me of a time many years ago when I found 4 Walking Liberty halves in a leather purse. Shards of leather and the frame clasp is all that was left of the purse but the entire mass came out in one scoop and I was overwhelmed with the feeling of success on a grand scale. I have no idea how long I stared at it before I took it apart and examined everything.

No it is not! As you put it well, it is about the thrill of the find, regardless of whether is clad or Walking Liberty silver. I mean, I prefer the silver better, but a find is always good however it comes. The same thing you wondered about how 16 quarters got there unnoticed was most of my conversation with my wife on our  way back home. We still theorize about it, but we both also wonder if there is yet another haul awaiting us in that same lot.  Cool
