Go Up Go Down

I had huffed and puffed up a long creek and finally get to the spot. I reach down for shovel full of dirt and, the rattler decides to start rattling. Now I was 2 feet from him and he could have just as soon as bite me then crawl up under that rock. I was told the bite first here and then rattle. I am thankful for the cool morning. Anyone know what kind is a green rattlesnake? No rattlesnakes was harmed in the making of this picture, lol.

Ahhh, but such a pretty snake.   I've been lucky so far with my snake encounters...we've always noticed each other early enough for both of us to make it out alive.

Yes he stood his ground but was tolerant of me. He stayed in the hole while I worked the area. I really wanted the dirt in that hole. I was using a compass and it hit hard at the base of this drop in the creek. The hole had 4 inches of overburden on solid rock. It was off to the side and probably held water a few hundred years ago. I crevaced very carefully and just couldnt get comfortable.

If my two dogs hadn't been with me it may have been a different story. Had one last year, I couldn't see it, and that worried me more. I did not know they were aggressive, thats good info. I was in shorts and tennis as the creeks are the only place you can do that. Do any of you wear leg protection. I could not see the guy and I was right on top of him. Also if bit should I kill the snake and bring it with me to the hospital? As long as Im not too far from the truck Im not worried too much. Last month it was a swarm of bees. It was too cold to sting as they just bumped off me, but I got the idea to leave. This was a little one, 3 foot long, very small rattles. Pretty lil guy.

LOL!!    We have them too.

With all the fires we have been having the bears are going to be showing up places you would not normally find them.

One Fire was well over 290,000 acres
