Go Up Go Down

I thought I hit a safe when I put my shovel into the sand, this door was sitting sideways and was a real bugger to get out of the ground, even worse to carry out to my truck. Its been blown out and put back together and reused. Has all the original nuts and bolts . Dated Pat 1885. All I was looking for were smalls...lol

With the gasket groove around the outside could it be a burner or firebox door that has been repaired at one time??

Mudflap! ya beat me while typing, oh well since I went to all this trouble...Great find! In my opinion, it is a firebox door. Probably from some steam engine, (rail or ship). the groove in the back is for packing to make a tight seal when closed. the 4 holes are air vents to prevent extinguishing the fire when the damper closes. It looks as if the casting broke once and was strapped together then failed a second time and the outer middle iron fell out.
