If only finds like that could tell their story. Know what I mean?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

metal was in short supply during the war years. Did you know that people gave up pots and pans for the war effort in the UK and very little of it was actually used. Hmmmm  propaganda by those in power always fleecing the poor, typical politicians out to fatten the wallet at other expence.

was the same here.before the war most of the coinage was copper and brass, they come up in good condition,,but the war coinage was zink, they come out of the ground in rotten condition, its the same with the WWI coins all zink,,,pitty, any way they are not worth any thing, but still love finding them, and they give a great signal an the minelab,so you got to dig

Yes, the zinc coins are unfortunately always in very poor condition. However finding a purse from that periode is indeed quite nice. It's just a pitty it hadn't contained any of the better coins. Keep up the good work Mike!

Regards,

Christian

PS: My V3 has just arrived but I still need to master it. So hopefully we can soon do some detecting.

zinc coins are the sign that tough times are upon a country --they debase their coinage using worthless zinc rather than good copper or silver --- the zinc cents used since 1983 and the new dollar coins with zinc in them are prime exsamples of coinage (money) being watered down metal wize. -- spain the former "master" of the new world in irs declining years near 1800 --started making "lesser" silver content money for use in ts colony's  only * of course no one told the general public about the practice  Wink

Interesting reach back into history unearthing the purse - even if it's contents were not of large value, still a cool find. Congrats! Enjoyed the pictures. Sue

Great find, Mike. Thanks for the pictures. I can almost hear the conversation from the past, "Honey, have you seen my change purse?"  Grin
