Thanks, and lol, I'm still stunned at finding both ear rings with the backs on them in the same hole! I got some great info on that land today! I stopped to help this old man in his yard down the streat and of course he wanted to chat. Never met him until then, he just was struggling to get a big branch in a cart he pulls arouond the yard with a little tractor to pick up sticks. He's 93 yrs old he said!! his house was built in the 1840's, he's not sure on the date, and that site where I got those........he made me a little map showing the layout of the other buildings  showing the outhouse,  a 3 holer he said lol.3 barns, and the garden area. I had already found the house and 2 barns and outhouse on my own, but the other barn was the stable, so now I can search that area and the garden area knowing at least that people have been in those areas alot in the past helps get better finds! Library research is good, but some of my best leads are from people. He also told me he's let others search his property in the past.........they werent as thorough as me (polishes knuckles on chest) lmao  I'll get some coins at his place when I run out of places to go  Clapp

If you can see through them, they're probably CZ.  Still a nice silver find.

If I were going to place a bet on this one, I'd bet on topaz.

avision, awesome find. Especially in a vacant field. Just goes to show you Gabby Hayes was right. "gold is where you find it". I don't know about the stones but the settings appear to be hand made which probably means silver though if that is the case they havn't been in the ground long enough to turn black. Hope they turn out to be diamond set in white gold. gambol

avision, When I see a vegatable stand in somebody's front yard I usually stop and buy a tomato or two and engage the owner in a chat about the history of the area. If he sounds friendly I then ask for permission to hunt his property. I was in a small town in Florida a month ago and bought a watermellon from one of these. The propriator was in his late 80's, a histroy buff himself, and knew the location of all the old houses in town. What was more important, I showed him a 1898 map of the town and he looked at it once and said the map was wrong. The wagon road on the map actually crossed the main road right along his fence line. A friend and I hunted his property last weekend and came up with a victorian drawer pull right by the fence. I'll be going back there. gambol

Quit teasing yourself. I say keep those fakes within reach the next time you're detecting in crack town. When the sinister mob of sleestaks come poking around , throw those pieces of crap as a distraction , while you make a run for it !  Cheesy But , seriously , I hope they're real ! And ,  before you tell someone they do their best work on their knees , I gotta tell ya , I heard you do your best work on your hands AND knees !  Shocked ( think about it )   Cry

                                                                                    GL and HH !

thats called a "chicago roll" you roll up $1 bills and put a rubber band around them, keep them in one pocket so you can throw them one direction and run  the other with the real roll in your sock lol. I'll find out tomorrow, takng them to a jeweler for a diamond test. I'm geting anxious now, I googled how to tell the difference and they are definitely stones, I just dont know what kind of stone, but not CZ's as far as I can tell so far with simple home tests like light, breathe on it fogg test, looking thru it, the cut is perfect, all the points meet exactly. Looking at them thru a loope I can see the grey matter inside here and there, and there not clear, CZ's are clear  (shrugs) leave it to the expert with the fancy gadgets and machines  tomorrow.

Just remember that the fancy machine needs to be ON for about three minutes before doing the test or it could give a wrong reading in fact it WILL I know I use to work with a jeweller.

All the best
