Howdy Everybody, I found this little item in a small community near a turn of the 20th century mining area ( 1890- 1920 ) in Arizona. I have posted on other sites with no luck of knowing for sure it's ID. There has been some great speculation and I appreciate all of that , however, it's still just speculation. Lantern hook, boot pull-on, bent ring, corn sheller and my favorite is corset tightener. Please don't stop the spec. but if anybody knows for sure I would love hearing from you. The outer curve says " Pat Jun 14, I think I can see an 8 after 14" and I can't make out the year, on the inside curve it says "Pat Jun 8" and I can't make out the rest. I tried to do a patent search searching June 14 Of all the 1880's, but for some reason I can't get any description or drawings to come up from the Patent office. The material from which it's made is hardened copper. Thanks for checking my post.
Ps; I would like to show you the pics. There are file selection buttons but no upload button? Can somebody tell me how to upload the pics.? Also is the limit 500 KB total or per pic? Thanks.

Thanks Bitburg; It's amazing that more folks don't know about these devices, it was posted on lost treasure online for quite awhile and then I posted it on Treasurehunting.com and also Finds.com and the answer was forthcoming. Thanks to all.
Now if I could get the original patent information and put it together as a display with a description of it's purpose and a lot more folks would have the knowledge about them. Not that it's that important but only because the more we know about our past the more we will know the right path for our future.
By the way, it was user " Carolina Phil " on finds.com that finally ID'ed the hook, thanks Carolina Phil.

Nice finding and excellent detective work too. I wish I could also solve the mystery behind my French token or coin. No luck to date and like you I e-mailed several experts and did not get any response.  Sad

Cyber
I can't find a match for yours but did find a reference  that the design has been copied and used in bracelets and necklaces in the 20's and again in the 60's Without a date its a token or a jewelery fob.
Will keep looking

Seldom
