I bought another metal detector this past weekend and decided to take it for a spin this morning . Today was a nice sunny day in New England with a little breeze . I went down to the Nissatisitt River in Groton MA . I got permission from a farmer to prospect on their land . I started about 10:00 this morning marching through the newly cut corn fields . It didn't take long before I started getting hits . As I began to dig I found that my targets were not metal but small white buttons . These buttons are small white with two or four holes , but anyway they set off both of my detectors . As I walked further into the field more of these buttons showed up some larger than others some other fancy black ones that looked like they belonged on ladies shoes . This had never happened to me before and I wanted to get out of the corn fields . I took my detectors down to the rivers edge . I got out the new detector and and started down a deer trail that followed the river . A piece of wire , several long berried beer cans . At least now I was finding real metal . I got a hit at the base of a tree right by the rivers edge . The detector went off like it was something good . When I finally found the target it turned out to be a...............Button!...A Brass button . On the back is inscribed "Ives Kendrick & co." . This company made buttons in the 1830's.
