It does say "pistola" the Spanish name for pistol. That was what really confused me, but I don't know about old coins. Just thrilled by your nice find.

The Pistola might not be right, possibly an i on the end.. the only other possibilty I can think of is maybe a measuring weight for a scale, but I doubt that.. It is fun to find stuff like that, gets the blood pumping a little bit. My goal is to find a gold coin at this site, I know of one that was found a number of years ago..      Good Chat.....john

Is there any chance it is a stamp of some sort, kind of like the old Roman stamps?

Ya know John, my wife and I were really giving a good look at the pics and also realized that is not "pistola." We tend to see things we are familiar with when indeed they are not there. Same for the roman number VIII. I don't think there is a number VIII either. But we wanted to see it in our effort to figure out what it has printed. Those are my two cents on it and I hope you figure it out soon.

I found a French coin or token with two obverse and have not come up with its origin or how it made it to a Chicago park.  Huh?

My Beretta Model 92SBF has a custom set of wooden diamond cut, non slip, crosshatched handgrips that have a brass Beretta emblem in the center on both sides. I can't get a picture of it because my guns are with my son in the USA. Too much trouble to get them in and out of Australia when I want them so I leave them with him.

I'm just wondering if that comes from a handgrip from a revolver where the wood has rotted away.

I quess that is something to look at, I do have books on antique guns. About twenty years ago a friend and myself were hunting an old plantation site below Fredericksburg Va., my friend found the same size item in the yard. I can't recall what was on it other than it had images and numbers on it
I do have a brass plate with designs on it that was found at the site I'm hunting now, it looks like
something that was on a gun.

The more I think about it, John, that's not likely because there's an image on both sides. The back would be flat if it were an emblem from a gun.

I was thinking the same thing about it having markings on both sides.......I've handled many firearms over the years. I appreciate the input.......John

I think we might be getting somewhere.  My brother-in-law is an archy from Spain.  I've got his interest piqued with this mystery coin now as well!!  If you could send me those high rwes shots that would help tremendously.

He noticed that there are fleurs de lis on it, leading him to think initially that it might be French.  We'll see where that goes too.
