My best guess right now is it is from the Victorian era, late 1800's. The holes had rhinestones in them but apparently came loose . From the greenish tint I can safely assume it isn't solid gold.It could have been overlayed with gold at one time but the base metal is probably brass, hence comes the color green. I have numerous pieces similiar in design. In the future you might want to photo the back too. I would soak it in olive oil for a week. Then use a toothbrush the lightly clean. I like to use a lead pencil to lightly scrape away the petina in hope of finding a manufacturing mark or number.

Maybe it contained a photo?  Not sure, but it's a nice first find!

Nice find!  Do you know anything about the history of the area where you are digging?  Sometimes that helps to id your finds.
