Go Up Go Down

I went to work today as usual but there's a storm here now and not much work to be done. In a moments break of the rain, I just walked around the construction site. As I passed a small pile of rocks (used as the foundation of the road at the site) a glint caught my eye. I reached down and picked up the rock and noticed a line of what looked like gold ore. I improvised a pan and crushed the rock. After panning it I was really tickled to see those sparkles. I'm not really very experienced at panning so there's a lot of black sand and still some debris but take a look at a small portion of what I panned today.

Not really sure from here...fool's gold?? Shocked

if its gold then congrats in advance. Grin

Got some answers if u need to verify quick:

One way to test it to see if it will stick to a strong magnet. Gold is non-magnetic, Therefor it should not be a tracked to the magnet. The only metal that will be a tracked to a magnet are iron, cobalt and nickel. Alloys that contain these elements will also be a tracked. Example- Steel.

Well Done!!
HH

Sorry about the quality of the pic. Did several tests (magnet was the first) and determined it is real gold. The rocks came from gold mine rejects. The rocks have very little and low quality gold therefore too expensive to process. There are only a few left that aren't already under eight inches of concrete. I have no intentions of crushing the rest of the rocks for an extremely small amount of gold. I'd rather      Detecting     Grin

It was still exciting though! HH yall,

Good eye! You might have been able to smell the sulphur like odor of fool's gold as you crushed the rock. Sue

Yes Sue, one of the other reasons I suspected real gold was the absence of the sulfur smell. But I figure if the amount of gold in those rocks had been sufficient, the mine wouldn't have discarded them. I figure those were diggings after a vein had already petered out.  Undecided  Just an educated guess. Thanks Sue,  Smiley

Thanks, Muttpuppy and Nuga Yoda,  Cool

Yes JJ haha, I'm glad at least that the road wasn't paved with fools gold  Grin

Thanks everyone and HH,

kd

It's not settling in the pan like gold would, magnet test - preliminary. Try a drop of nitric acid, then tell us what you have  Grin

Hi Kendavid, I guess a lot depends on when the mine discarded them. There is the million dollar road in the US connecting Silverton & Ouray Colorado that is the gold tailings from mines. The underlayment of the road going over Red Mountain Pass. Technology today could get it out. Sue
