Go Up Go Down

Here are a couple pistols I found.  I was wondering why I keep finding these types of things.  Then I realized I like hunting unseen in private places and someone wanting to get rid of something who hide it in an unseen private place.  At least that's my theory.

The Lugar is from Germany.  I wanted to detect a little one Sunday so I tried to disappear in the forest.  Sunday is the worst day to detect in Germany because everyone is outside.  I went to a more secluded spot and in moments found the Lugar.  I imagine it got dumped at the end of the war by someone who didn't wish it be known he was involved in anything.
The other pistol was on a hill in Austria.  This is a wonderful peak and I suspect it holds many ancient caches as we have found other wonderful things there.  I will post the palstaves some day from the same area.  Please don't ask the exact whereabouts of this location.

Hello Dave, the P08 is a really good find! By the way, place it into distilled water for some time! This will remove teh rist without damaging the iron patina! A very safe, cheap and clean method. However it may take a while.

Dean, a friend of mine was diving in a German lake mayn years ago. The local town people must have dumped gallons of arms into the lake shortly after the war or towards its end.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that many lakes in Germany still contain a wealth of military stuff as it was an easy way to dismiss this stuff.

Alos hunting small rivers next to towns or espically the ones that pass right through them can result in finding party and war medals.

Some of the lakes are very deep.  I read of a person who dumped a fabulous collection of tin soldiers in a lake.  She rowed out with this guy's collection and dumped them.  I have forgotten the name of the lake.  I think she was the wife of the Hitler youth leader.  I wonder if in a deep cold lake items would stay in good shape or rust into nothing?

Bill Morgan told me to put a wire down the barrel of the Lugar.  If it went a short distance there was a bullet in the firing chamber.  I think there is a round ready to fire if the thing wasn't so rusted.  I bet the person who got rid of this was in a hurry.  It was only about eight inches deep.  You could probably kick a hole that deep.

The 1912 Frommer Stop pistol is an awesome find, very unusual, I'm green with envy!

Here is what it would look like complete:

Here is some info on how the Frommers action worked, it's kind of unusual and thought it might be of interest:
