Just in the parks, RR. However,  I am using that process that I posted in the care and cleaning board to shine them up and then I will take them to the bank. Smiley Smiley Smiley

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Carl after cleaning them with cleaning fluid I use to put the modern coins in my Turbo 1200 bullet Tumbler, that use to give them a uniform look,

Yes that is one way that works well, but over here disposing of chemicals is not easy. Throwing vinegar and salt solution down the toilet doesn't really do much damage. However,  I did notice that if I cleaned a lot of quarters and dimes, the liquid turned bluish. I suspect it is a nickel/copper soulution and that I will dispose of at a proper place. I suppose I might be able to use an electroplating process to get the metals out, but I might just use an evaporative process.

The fastest cleaner for cleaning encrusted coins I have found is a kitchen spray cleaner called Cillit Bang, its a lime scale sink and bathroom spray and it is fast and cheap and all the chalk/tarnish wipes off,,

Plumbers Flux/Acid paste has a similar effect but it is powerful,

That brand not available over here, but we have a similar product called CLR , a calcium-lime-rust remover. That cleans them off but they still have a reddish brown color afterwards, but the vineagar/salt solution returns the nickel color, and a little bit of Brasso bfings back the shine. I never clean any key date coins of value.

Dusty Carl

Ps maybe we should move this over to the other thread on the care and cleaning board so others might share in this knowledge.
