Andrew, what part of Germany are you in? My middle nami is Otto and my family came from Germany. I have been to Germany when I was 15 and too young to appreciate the visit. My wife & I are going to be coming to Germany in the future, I want to visit the town my family originated from. My aunt Glenna has the name of the town, I will let you know when I get it.

Looks like more than one type of metal melted together and some element caused the colorations you see in the piece. Looks a lot like a piece of fools gold that I bought at a local fleamarket from a former rock hound. You ought to have seen the heads turned and doubletakes as I walked around holding that big chunk of fools gold shimmering and sparkling as the summer sun struck it that day. It really could fool someone!
