Do boats travel or travelled on this river in past not a hundred percent sure but could this be brass a lot of boat props are made of brass strong material and would a give a coppery color if exposed to heat neat find though how did you find it were you metal detecting at the time good luck in finding out keep us postd

Checking lumps with a magnet can tell you something sometimes. Nonmagnetic and light may be aluminum, nonmag and heavy could be silver. Normally silver would be black but not if it's been river tumbled. Magnetic and you're on your own.

Looks kinda like a Meteorite. The metal is pitted from intense heat. *shrug*

Yes pesim, boats do or did travel along the Ruhr,it was a big trade route in the 1800`s...as of yet I`ve had no luck identifying the object,...I was scanning the river bank after a large river swell, and spotted it by eye behind a large tree.
Thanks for your imput. Smiley

It does look like Meteorite Dachha,..but,..unfortunatly I don`t think it is,..I`ve recently had a scare with a meteor-wrong Embarrassed It had all the makings of a iron one,I contacted the Natural History Museum in the U.K. who tested a piece I sent them which they had a look at under an electron microscope...only 6% nickel so they think it was a left over piece of specialized metal, stainless steel or similar.I`m determined to find one someday !! I did find something similar except that it had more iron content and rust spots on it. I had it checked and it turned out to be a Henberry III AB meteorite. I was excited.

Cool
Should go back and have a look around if it was washed up from the river it might be from a passing boat but if what you say is true and was found up higher than the river and that in the 1800's they used as trade route then you may have found a ship from the past do some more investigating/reasearch,detecting.
We have a river here in Aus the murray river travels through three states they are forever finding old relics from paddle steamers and trade ships that were used in the early days of settlement here.
Due to river here running at its lowest it has for over a hundred years is revealing all kinds of goodies
I am only assuming but could have the rurh dropped over the past couple of hundred years also this would make your find a different find all together good luck though have to agree with all the posts you are receiving this is a great convo piece should just sit it on your coffee table that should be reward in itself   Cool later
