Nightjar;

Interseting gold, I think maybe a lot of forum viewers have not really LOOKED at it. To me it is very strange looking, like: the first picture shows a lot of dark material.... what is that? Also, its ALL rough.... here, finding rough material, like that would cause a search for a hard rock deposit. We would say: That sure didnt travel far!

Was that part of Australia EVER glaciated? Some of the gold producing areas, in the Yukon, like Mayo, were never glaciated.

Ive got a small nugget, but it was never found with a metal locator or I might have a story... its about 110  grains, worth a bit over $200 US.... wish I could find them, like that and I HAVE been planning a trip, to do just that. All the gold, around here, is flour gold, no good for locators.

You must just about make your living nugget shooting??

Finished the season and have hung up the detecting gear until the cooler weather roles around about March.
Very happy with the results using the GPX-4500.

Hoping everyones treasure hunting, be what it may, be successful.

Very nice finds, apparently you have developed a lot of skill in your search for gold. Do you ever find gold nuggets on the shore lines (Oceans) in remote areas? I would think that the ocean floor is probably saturated with nuggets in certain areas . Thanks for the photos and commentary on your finds.....John in Virginia....USA

Hello John,
Yes, there are tonnes of natural gold in the ocean, even sea water has a percentage however the extraction cost far outweighs the profit.
There are no known gold deposits close the ocean on the West coast, we travel 500/1000 kilometres inland to the known deposits to swing our detectors.
The link is only one of many about the wealth in our oceans.

Thanks Peter for the info on the gold extraction from sea water. I read the article, looks like they will be able to get the gold etc. from sea water. Have a good day....John in Va.

I would rather know about the make and model of the locator you were finding these with, and what size of coil!  Grin Grin

Hello Goldigger,
As mentioned above the detector is a Minelab/ GPX-4500  and the majority of the gold was found using a Nugget Finder/ Super Light 20" round Mono Coil. Other coils used were a 16" NF/SL round mono and the Minelab 11" round mono.
The gold was found in depths ranging between surface and 16" deep.

Cheers
Peter
