Go Up Go Down

My buddy and I hit the field yesterday for about 3 hours. His very first signal was a 1902 Barber quarter! The first one to come out of this field. My first signal was a dadgum memorial cent!
Jim laughed and started down his row when he got another signal. I got to laugh this time because he dug a memorial cent! Someone must have "salted" this site with memorials because there hasn't been a structure standing since the 50s.
Anyway, I started down my row and got a good signal about 5 1/2"s deep. Thinking it was another memorial I dug a big clod of wet soil out of the hole and ran the detector over it. The signal was in the plug so I started running a handful at a time passed the coil. The third pass gave me the signal so I began reducing the amount of dirt on each pass. I dropped a bit of dirt and lost the signal so I started sifting through it and out popped another 1902 Barber Quarter!
What are the odds of that happening?
Jim finished the day with a circa 1889 watch fob and I pulled my second shield nickel of the year.
There won't be many more chances to hunt this field this year. The owner has already laid it off and will be planting peanuts very soon.

That is my  buddie's chew. I don't want to hurt your feelings but I can't stand any form of tobacco. I reckon I got my fill of smoke during the 30 years I spent with the fire department.
