Go Up Go Down

Hi all,
Got out Sat, didn't look too good at first as it rained the whole journey but after the eggs and bacon/ coffee it stopped.
Didn't get any 1812 stuff this time lots of land under water but a few interesting items emerged.
Rifle bolt.the whole action..WW1 Huh?
Two penknives in the same hole.
Two 1940's coins,
One live .303 bullet head stamped 1915
some live blank rounds WW1.
A boot heel steel shoe protector WW1,
Back of a pocket watch, "made in England"
Tent eyelets.
These eyelets at first when I found a few, I was keen to detect the area carefully usually lost items always turn up around these sites, but after finding so many and on examining them I could see trapped "burnt" canvas which I think indicates that this tent had burnt and there was nothing but those items left.
Also found a place where there had been a "machine gun" set up with hundreds of shell casings every where all WW1 and these had been "live fire" not the usual blanks.
Nice to be back in the woods again ...........HH..........Johnnn

Hi R R,
This site was a training ground for the first world war, there are area's where shell casings are not to much of a problem and then there are places that are imposible to detect, along with that problem there is some evidence that there was some WW2 activity also as some shell casings are dated from the early 1940's.
I have had some great badge finds here but when there are sooooo many casings it is overwhelming trying to find them as all signals are "good".
I would like to see a machine that can actually show the shape of the target so that I could dig only coins and badges.....HH...Johnnn

Hi RR,
This time of year is best to hunt as the plant material is still flatened after the snow melt in the summer it would be very hard to swing a coil, and yes it is very rough ground I only go till the bugs and heat start then pack it in till fall...
HH..............Johnnn

Hi RR,
Believe me I have tried to hunt the summer months, the Mosquitoes and humidity make it unpleasant, and carrying 3 Litres of water around 1/2 mile off the road is not helpfull.
Where are you which area / country are you in?
When I visit the UK I don't have the same problem it always seems temperate and the winter months are the best..........HH.........Johnnn
