Hi All,
Went to the same site as last week, with a different philosophy this time.
As there are tens of thousands of shell casings here we tried something different. We KNOW there are badges buttons and coins here but digging up shell casings is a little soul destroying when every signal seems to be a brass shell case.......To find the collectables in this maze will have to wait for some new technology, so just for fun and to check out a new technique my detecting buddy put away his machine for the day and became the "digger".
I used my Tessoro and held it a foot of the ground or until single shell casings could not be found, what this did was to produce signals on locations where larger items would only sound off, this produced 2500 shell casings all of which were in large groups and some large iron objects, waste of a day really but it has convinced us to go else where next Sat....see the pix...HH...Johnnn

WW2 era vehicle jack.
Automatic rifle magazine "second one from this site" one on the left from last year, these are from 1962.
WW2 bayonet scabbard this is Canadian type and was a "spike" not a blade.

Looks like an FAL magazine... could be a Bren. What caliber are the shells?

Hi LM,
The shells are just a little over 8mm and are dated 1962, so I don't think they are from a Bren..These are modern as most are from WW1 and some are WW2 the big problem is there are tens of thousands of them and trying to find the goodies is becoming a "not worth while" exercise, we are leaving the site alone for a while and may go back next year...HH.....Johnnn

Can you at least turn them in for scrap and get some money for them?

Hi Lafatlife,
Yes that exactly what I do, althought I have saved hundreds of WW1 casings I have a plan for them on the 100th aniversary of WW1.
Also the scap man wants a reasurance that there are no "live" cartidges amoungst them..............my last $$$ payout was $275 ..HH...Johnnn

Hi Lafatlife,
I am getting to the point where I really don't want to dig up shell casings anymore, if you see my latest post you will see the kind of goodies I am after but this site is inundated with casings and it is pure luck to wander into an area that is free from these things.
Brass is currently $1.42 a Lb so I had over a hundred Lbs of casings.
.......HH.............Johnnn

I got $160.oo for the last brass my neighbor turned in for me. and I let him keep it cause they are on a fixed income.
But John is right collecting all that brass can be back breaking after a while. and I have been avoiding those spots for now.

Hi Karl,
Thats a mighty fine gesture you did there for your neighbour "Props to you".
I keep hearing about new machines that have a real time video screen attached that actually shows the shape of the target I am just waiting to see who or which manufacture is selling them as this site has got many good finds waiting to be recovered...........HH.....Johnnn

Wish I were closer would love to go hunting with you.

I am happy with my machine it's the most light weight MD I have found, so it enables me to keep on MD ing.

but when u get one of those new fancy video screened machines please write a review on it ,

cause I would be interested to know your thoughts on it.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.
