Go Up Go Down

Found a lucky penny medallion today, Almost missed it because I thought it was a can lid. (see photo of what it looked like when I got it out of the hole. ). but as soon as I picked it up I knew it was too heavy to be a can lid. It was completely covered with dirt and I placed it in my pouch thinking it was some sort of a slug or machine part that I would look at later. Apparently these came from the 1933 worlds fair held in Chicago. I found it in the foundation dirt of a house that was razzed.
The house was built in '51. I'm trying to find out if there was a structure on this site before 51. Gambol

Cache, Yes it did, good solid coin ring and a solid 85 which is quarter or larger on my machine. Fortunately it was deep enough it had a small pinpoint pattern or I would passed over it as trash. Gambol

Great You are holding a great piece of history right there. There are several variations of those medallions. Yours refer to Chicago's Fort Dearbon, which carries an incredible history behind it, pre- and post-civil war.  Teach
I still need to find one of those here in Chicago.
