The coins were originally in a box, in coin holders, some sort of collectable. Have a gold appearance, and clean up nicely. Not heavy enough to be gold. No trademark or jewlers mark. Ty for the reply.

The back of each coin has comments on the President on coin. The edges are smooth, so I guess not really a coin, but a token. There are only 31 coins in the set, so some presidents are missing. Id say the set was not purchased before 1970. It was a display, but the cardboard it was in did not survive the basement it was found in. I will be looking at toy and learning companys. Thanks.

Coin Collecting - President token

Question

Pres. TokenHi, I recovered this Jefferson Davis token. At fist I thought it was a cracker jack or shell oil token but it doesn't match any of those. I was recovering relics from 1850s  to date out of this area. Can you help date it or know some one that can. Thank you Bob.

Answer
Hi Robert,
I recognize this as part of a vintage set of Presidential medallions made from the late 1950's up to the early 1970's.
I can't seem to find any pictures on-line from this particular set, but there should be a few lines of text on the other side. These medallions were gold gilt over bronze and brass. Once the gilding wears off, either metal would turn to an oxidized green such as you have.
The condition of the medallion also matches the age of the medallions I have in mind. It looks exactly like it spent a couple decades in the ground. Longer periods would cause the metal itself to become pitted and corroded out of shape.
Unfortunately it would not have much of a value.
Thanks for the question! =)
