jimmyg8138, thanks for the reply.... I did not know that Lukas had moved..... I also posted on that forum, but just found it difficult to find stuff etc.... I like Lukas, he is an interesting man to talk with.... I just found that they seemed to not want visitors.... He actually went crazy over the gold coin I found, as he had not found any himself, in fact he offered to buy it from me.... I still have that coin, it is special to me. He was a good organizer on those trips.... I spoke to him also about getting the metal detecting club running again which he was very excited about, but it never happened.... I think he just got too busy with his company.
If you can find anyone from here, and I will also look.... please refer them back to us.

I'll do that for you. Also talking about Lukas, when we were there, Lukas took us down in one of the platinum mines, about 1,000 feet down...That was a real highlight for me as I'm the son of a coal miner and I've never gone down into a mine before. Yep, Lukas is quite the person...a big teddy-bear. Jim

jimmyg8138, I am going on a tour of a mine tomorrow which should be fun.... and to add to that some gold panning.

I used to work underground at Westonaria gold mine.... Must admit when you work there in 40?c  104?F it is not funny. The shaft lift that takes the people up and down went at 18m per second, that is about 54 feet per second. It was very scary.... If the lift suddenly stopped, it would be broken legs for sure.

Thank you guys for all your input on this topic.... we do appreciate it very much.... and as Xavier has already stated if you guys come here, give us a visit....

Hi Peter...Yep, been there before, quite impressive for one man to amass all this stuff. Nice post as well.
Here's a couple of pixs of my trip in 2006.
First is in the platinum mine
Left to right, Wolfgang, Lukas, John Hawkins of Montana, USA and myself, Jim Cianelli, Brooklyn
Second and third pictures are of Lukas's museum

Jimmy,

Looks like you had a great mine visit..... I worked at Westonaria Gold Mine and worked on 45 level. We used to go down the shaft in the elevator at 18m per second, land at the bottom  Grin then catch the Giraffe (train) for a 25 minute ride, then we would catch the lift again down the sub shaft, land again  Grin then walk for about 30 minutes to reach our place of work..... basically it took 3 hours a day to get to and from our work place...... But it was great fun, well at the beginning, but soon wore off.
