Hi Viking ! I have got some ideas already ! I have friend in Vryheid ,which is close to all interesting spots. Maybe thru  him I will try to approach some farmers and organize for us something like long weekend in the field - maybe, like 2 x a year ? It will be nice to get together , all of us  , we could pay farmer few bucks and maybe camp on his farm . I saw , famous detectorist from US of A , Jimmy Sierra is organizing treasure hunting tours to England for many years and guys are very happy ! (jimmysierra.com ) Let me know , Guys , who would be interested to spend few days in the field ?

Xavier ! I see you are getting somewhere with yours machine !  I build also some detector few years ago , electronic part is cooked , but mechanical part - like arm ,electronic box ,battery holder is good  . If you need it I can send it to you. Will post some photos , maybe it will save you some time and work ?

Hi Guys

Man I see you guys have been busy these past few hours (great stuff). Depending on the time of year and my financial situation at the time I would be very interested to join you guys. Silki I'm always interested in parts it's the story of my life at the moment looking for parts. I have placed a pin pointer on it now but the weather is bad today so no testing at the beach Darn.

Regards Xavier

Hello Silki...What you proposed, finding a farmer to accept a group of people to detect their property, is exactly what I do twice a year.

There's two main groups (many more if you include gold nugget hunting in the western states and Alaska) that do this in America. The leader scouts for farms and when he finds one, he posts on his forum (I purposely left off the site as there's no love between the two main groups) to anyone that wants to go, for a fee, and usually lasts 3/4 days. Some people camp on the site, others, like myself, get a hotel room not far from where we detect. The leader pays the farmer, of which I'm not privy as to how much. I'll be going to one of these hunts next spring, along with over 100 others, men and women I might add. We pay the leader and sign a release form to protect the landowner if anything happens to any of us. These farms are big, over 3000+ acres so there's more than enough room to host us all. These farms are usually near or at a Civil War battle or encampment.

Good luck, Jim
PS: In 2006 I participated in a hunt in your country, much like they do in England. It was one of the better ones I've been to and I go to England every year.
This is probably one of the greatest hobbies a person could get involved in.

Hi Jimmy ! Nice to hear from you ! It is also make me feel proud that you have good memories from our country ! Yes , I am planning to organize for us some fun in the field ! Unfortunately there is no hundred of us but 6 or 7 but again , strength is not in numbers but in QUALITY - isnt it Guys ?! You ,Jim , will be invited as a special quest , I promise ! And I hope that you will accept the invitation ! Well , we do not have here so much historical spots or tons of coins under one feet like in yours country , but with Pgill around we can still hope for some gold coins ! I am starting my planning , it will be probably for first part of coming year ! See you than ! Simon.

Hi Jimmyg8138

Good to hear from you and thanks for that lovely post. I know of someone that has a farm up in JHB but I will first have to find out whether there was any activity out that way during the Boer war if there was I could probably get him to let us hunt on his farm.

Regards Xavier

Hi Pgill ! You are wellcome - with yours friend ! There is always place and piece of bred for good people ! In Festive season that fort maybe to busy ,but I spotted some good looking old farm - houses , abandoned, of course , close to that village where I am working during the week .I am trying now to locate owner of that land and and use my personal charm to obtain entry permission ! Once I have that - you are invited for exploration  - I am deadly afraid of snakes  and there is plenty of them around ! It will be good to have back up ! Going back to work on Sunday - will make few photos - nice places !
