jbaymike, I live here in Florida and I've got lots of beach experience with a 250. Unfortunately the salt scrambles its brains; not that it doesn't work in salt just that its range is limited and a bit tricky to use. My suggestion is to stay out of the water and in wet sand bury some coins and pull tabs at various depths to see what sensitivity setting you can get away with before the falseing gets out of hand. Keep in mind dry sand wet sand and saturated sand will give different results. I used the lowest sensitivity setting in the jewelry mode for wet sand. This limits the depth to 2 " for a US dime but is tolerable for hunting. If you have to go in the water you will have to scrub the bottom to find anything. The pinpoint function is the saving grace of the 250. It seems to be less reactive to the salt than the discrimination mode. Good luck Gambol

Viking, I guess we all should look closely at what we find as soon as we find it. Every so often I've had surprises. Here is a charm that I thought was melted lead until I cleaned it up.

Viking, that is one hell of a sad story that you have told us  Cry how else will I get my gold coins back, if you don't know where they are found  No no! I bet that friend of yours is kicking himself.....

JbayMike, you should still manage more than one coin at the beach with that ace 250.... just stay in the dry sand, you should do fine. Mine reacted well in dry sand at Margate beach....  Detecting I have also used the Tesoro Silver Sabre II on the sand and have done pretty well with coins.

Gambol1, that charm looks good, is it gold also?

Go Up Go Down

Pgill, Howdy, One more (true) cow story. When I was living in Texas in the 1970s we rented a house on the Goodnight Ranch out in the central "hill country" of Texas. This was cow and goat country.  Well one night , Just as I was settling down in my bed for a long summers sleep, I was just drifting off, I heard a terrific CRASH! It sounded like a car had run into the house. Shocked I jumped out of bed and ran outside in my underwear, walked around the house. Saw no car and no evidence of the crash. It was a very dark night as I recall, I went back to bed wondering what it was. The next day when I got home from work I looked again. The asbestos shingles on the side of the house, just beside where my bed stead was were cracked and there was animal hair in the cracks. This was the site of impact. A few days later when I was talking to the rancher he said his bull got out and wandered down on the road and  a car ran into him, didn't knock him down but scared him badly enough he made a bee-line up to my house and wham! Grin
