ASHBURY PARK NJ a 1943 penny struck in bronze in the denver mint sold for 1.7 mil."this is the most valuable small cent tah texist today'said Middle town NJ,coin dealer Laura Sperber,a specialist in the rarest of US coins,who sold the lincoln cent.most 1943 pennies were minted in zinc-coated steel to conserve copper for other uses during world war2.an employee at the denver mint struck the coin in bronze and it was passed down thru the family Sperber said."it was carefully preserved" she said.Sperber said she negotiated with the coins owner for four years before he agreed to sell it.she sold it to a prominent business exec in the south west.both buyer and selled with to be anonymous

interesting story.  I wonder how the mint employee manage to get away with it.  That could be a tale worth hearing.
