Also that explains a little how our finds system works, although it can be a little long winded at times but at leased the
detectorists and the arkies can sit at the same table and although arkies get to add imput to how we deal with the finds
it is a start, The trouble with arkies i don't go telling them how to dig yet they can govern how i detect Shocked
In England detectorist have found 95% of the finds and sites that the arkies and musium's now have compared to
10 years ago, But it still needs some fine tuning but it works and the finds are safe and so are the sites so thats good.

No, I am NOT trying to tell you a long range gold detector was used.   I'd say it was sheer luck and having the garden in the right place.  People were stumbling upon hidden gold accidentally and (occasionally) on purpose way before there were metal detectors or "long range gold detectors".

Treasure is treasure whether it is found by a well financed syndicate after a long, deliberate, methodical search or by a person swinging a detector in the field, or by a "dowser" using a pendant over a map, or by a work crew digging a trench for a sewer pipe, or a dog burying a bone.....or even the old couple walking arm in arm through the park who spot something shiny sticking out of the ground.

of the Crown, if no one came forward to rightfully claim them?

I mean they were found on a private piece of property by the owners of that current property, so even if the finders reported the find and an effort was made to find it's rightful owners & if they didn't come forward, I would think that the find would then revert back to the
(current property owners who found the coins) on their own land?

It's good that they family descendants of the Jewish man that buried them there were found and that they will get them, so that made the whole find work out for the best. (Everybody won in this find)  The Original family that owned them, the current property owners that found them & the museum even got a token thank you.

Thanks for the story, it was interesting to read,  Wink
Jim

I'm not sure how it works Jim coz If it contains more than 10% precious metal or is 300Yrs old then it has to go to the
Portable Antques scheem for a valuation and to see if the Musiums want to buy it and if they dont then it's yours

with the good possibility of the Thunter ending up with something then.

Still, I think sometimes it's better like this:  (Mums the word)

Thanks,
Jim

Well Jim that works too, But it's good to have A system in place just in case, coz you never know what you'll dig up
Just like those folks with them coins, It works most of the time but there have been times when its been wrong
