I agree with toolboxdiver for sure!!!  Lavoy's been very very successful according to published and televised reports.  That is why I believe it is such a shame that he's been deceived by a faker on this alleged 1798 coin found in his front yard.

Altho' only 3 have clicked on the compare image proferred earlier, here as a follow-up to show the places where the fakery is truly startling.
My humble opinion is that it is incumbent upon those who think they have found rarities in their MD/TH'ing to have authenticators who charge reasonable prices to submit their finds to before being flimflamed by a con artist who has their own reasons for perpetrating fraud upon you or Lavoy or anyone else for that matter.

Jeff, I'm not claiming, nor have I ever claimed Lavoy is a fraud.  The man has been authenticated and venerated and a modern icon in his own right.  Doesn't mean he can't, hasn't been before, and won't be in the future again, a victim of counterfeiting.

I've made it very clear that I believe Lavoy is a VICTIM of fraud, and sadly so.

Your claim about my statement and what I've actually posted are two totally different assertions. Stop trying to put words in my mouth and the forum will be better for the efforts both of us make to contribute.
