musn't touch anything older than 50 years unless you are part of an official and sanctioned archeological dig....wouldn't be prudent or ethical.  You might destroy the one critical key in understanding the way to end global climate change.    Shocked

Well the archie's want it all for their self if it was up to them they would banned metal detectors everywhere and stop all artifact hunting on private land. You would not be able to collect fossils and some if not all mineral's would became off-limits. The full time, part time and even the hobbyist treasure hunters way of life is getting very complicated. Every week I read were a state county or city has pass a law forbidding MDing or requiring a permit.
It all comes down to do what you have to do just don't brake any laws thats the point I was making with the article. The folks that are paid to protect the public sites are recovering and selling artifacts but will lock me or you up for doing the same thing.

So a one hundred year old coin must be left in its hole? Here in my part of Ohio we must have a permit for both the city and county parks to metal detect.

If the area claims to be operating according to ARPA they can interpret the laws that way (and often do).
