So the Anglo Saxon hoard is a tremendous find made by a detectorist/treasure hunter, but now the Explorer channel has made the general detectorist/treasure hunter the villain because we are not a (archeologist or part of some government agency). All the damage done in 1 sentence............. Violent   Your thoughts guys? I am already feeling the hate form local state officials.

I just watched that show. I think it was more about the MD users sneaking in at night and stealing the treasure. I really don't think this will have much if any impact on us "regular Joe's" and if it does it will be in the European country's not in America

Given the global reach of media, what one set of people using detectors does wrong is often used as examples as to how irresponsible "most" of us are-----especially by those who thing only the trained, accredited academics should have access to historical objects.  If you don't think something like this program can have an impact on your detecting, just take a look at how many sites have been closed to detecting in the last 15-20 years.

i think the fact that the metal detectorist in question did everything by the book and reported his find to the appropriate authorities can only be a good thing for the hobby and that the night hawkers referred to are scoured upon by true detectorist who generally do this hobby for the benefit of all and not for financial reward.
