There's a shop in Spain selling the old Black Dog model.  Why would you sell detectors in a country where it's banned ??  Presumably to supply people who want to break the law.  There are several shops in Spain selling detectors which seems odd??

I'm guessing it's Not What you Know but Who You Know.  Also heard Tourist get away with Detecting Resort Beaches.  Sounds all to dodgy to me.  My luck they would take all my toys away and worse.   Huh?

I forgot to mention that beach detecting is not really against the law.  What they frown upon is robbing the national patrimony.  Anything ancient is against the law.  Now, I have approached the Guardia Civil about getting a permit, supposedly that is available but not one Guardia Civil cuartel would provide me with the necessary permits.  I am guessing these shops are allowed to sell and it is up to the buyer whether or not they stay on the right side of the rules and regulations.

As it was explained to me, the authorities want to maintain the archeological integrity of a site so they do not allow detecting but in 80% or more of the sites, the archeological integrity has already been violated years ago by agriculture practices mixing the different levels.  It is not uncommon to find bronze age, Roman, Celtic-Iberian, Medieval and later all in the same row when sweeping a path across a field.

Another couple of good places to look is France and Portugal down towards the southern part.  Lots of goodies still out there to be had.

Also it doesn't hurt if one of your detecting buddies in Spain has a badge.  Preferably Guardia Civil or National Police, local not so much.

I have researched and there are some groups in Spain that have permits and have allied themselves with the right authorities, however, you made it clear in the previous post that you are prepared to creep around at night and detect without permission.

I didn't even know they had a term for it.  Good at it?  I don't know how to rank myself.   The biggest problem I find in the desert, in battlefields here and in Europe in general is that everywhere looks better than where you're at and I tend to wander over to what appears to be greener pasture during the day.  At night I can slow down and focus and that seems to be when I find the most stuff.  It really works good for nugget shooting as well, the only difference is that I do turn on a light once I get a signal and use it to aid in the recovery.  Little nuggets are hard enough in daylight to recover and even worse at night.   Detecting

Night Hawkers are Frowned on here.  They have caused many of new rules, restrictions and shut downs of good hunting places.

If you detect without permission, you are a thief, period.

Damn girlfriend....!  Allow me to paraphrase the King James, John Chapter 8, Verse 7 in local dialect of the Hillbilly as found in Kentucky, West by God Virginia and all points south, " let him what ain't done nothing wrong chunk the first rock"

I'm not just prepared to creep around and detect, hell I've actually done it...not proud of it but it has been done and I've found things.  I might suggest that instead of researching online you actually speak with someone that detects in Spain and listen to how their government interferes with the citizen's pursuit of happiness there.  I can take you to several places that were hot spots for detecting that are now apartment complexes or whole hillsides that were hauled away for making the new Autopista through Spain.  The same government and legal system that keeps folks from detecting said nothing as these archaeological sites were razed and destroyed.

Your soap box rhetoric is falling on deaf ears.  Meanwhile the country of Spain is being overrun by low life dregs from Africa, both North and Sub Saharan with an increase in drug dealing, prostitution and other felonies yet the fine folks that sit behind desks taxing their citizens to provide protection have chosen to persecute and stamp out detecting.

That is what I like about BLM land....wide open as long as you're not working someone else's claim.  That is an infraction that can get you a more immediate and violent response than dealing with the authorities.... Grin

And if you don't pay your fair share of income taxes and pretty much all sin is sin so I'm guessing you went into detecting right out of the priesthood and were brought about through immaculate conception....born wearing a matching Adidas running outfit and color coordinated shoes....are you freaking kidding me??

Come on Mud Max, pull your thong out of your crack and lighten up...you Amish are wound too tight..... Smiley
