There's a picture of the beauty. What a great inspiration for those detecting out in that area.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A property owner with a metal detector in the Sierra community of Washington (Nevada County) unearthed a gold nugget worth about $250,000.

The nugget weighs about 10 pounds, but it's worth more as a collector's item because it's the largest nugget in California.

Mining experts said the 49ners just missed finding it. Instead, it got covered up with their mining debris.

What does he mean by it's the last one?  It is just the largest "found"!

Ain't that the truth.....Unless he's God Almighty, he doesn't know whether it's the last or not....only that it is the largest (so far)

It's not even the largest one found.

"In 1854 the largest gold nugget ever found was in California at Carson Hill above the Stanislaus River. It weighed 195 pounds and was valued at $43,534 in the currency of the day."

Gold Prices of 1854 was $18.93 a Toz.

At todays price of $1300.oo some you could buy a cool little Island.

1 pound = 14.5833333 troy oz x 195lb x $1300.oo

$3,693,630

He did say it was the largest found with a detector. In 1854, detectors were called eyes.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

LOL! that 195lb er   would sing like a banchi!  You would walk over it thinking it was a Model T hulk!

With my luck, I would trip on it brake my  neck and die.   The Recovery Team would walk on it skid his knees and sue my Estate that has $12.00 in it.  LOL!
