TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - It may be the richest shipwreck treasure in history: some 15 tonnes of colonial-era silver and gold coins from an undisclosed site in the Atlantic Ocean

I believe the wreck they found is the British vessel "Merchant Royal." It sank in a storm in 1641 forty miles S.W. of England. The MR carried 300,000 British Pounds in silver and 100,000 in gold.

Great Article,

I live about 100miles from the wreck site, as the crow flies.
The three odyssey marine exploration vessels, were often docked at Falmouth, during their search period, this is a large port on the south coast of Cornwall, about fifty miles south west from my city of Plymouth.

The wreck itself was found off-shore between Lands End Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

According to news reports, the Treasure was shipped to Gibraltar and then flown to the states.

Crowsnest.

Enjoyed your informative post, Kevin. I'd just read where Spain is looking into possibly charging them with theft. Sue

That is hilarious! Someone should sue Spain for stealing the silver from native Americans. They should also be charged with genocide for enslaving and killing an estimated 50 million natives and wiping out entire cultures (Aztec, Maya).
