It's easy to see that is stolen gold loot. Why else would the serial number and manufacturers name be ground down. Someone has been carrying that around awhile because of the wear around the edges.

Here's another tidbit for you. That bar was produced between 1935 (1st year of issue for 500 gram) and the year 2005 (last year DEGUSSA trademark was used) Not WWII gold loot. Look it up:

I  really don't think so John seeing that the bar was made after 1952. Probably some visitors hedge fund. Don't know why serial number was removed. Read my updated post.

Sorry I missed the bit about 1952,

They got the weight wrong 500gms is 16.075 OZT, the person who wrote the article must of used imperial Ounce's. that's worth around $19,290 US,
