Modern  technology  is grand. Now they said  it won't  help  find it.
but couldn't  the overlay a current  map with the lidar  map to help  pinpoint the route
the kings treasures  took..

If the resolution was sharp enough that they could distinguish narrow routes that consist of slightly more compacted soil than the surrounding soil after both are buried under an additional 800 years of added silt, then yes, they could probably do what you suggested.  I doubt if the current technology is capable of that level of discrimination.   The concept would probably work in areas where a less thick overburden existed (say a desert region), and could work at some point in the future.
